This year's 4th of July events will take place on Saturday, July 2nd. Highland PRIDE will be serving homemade ice cream in the Community Center from 11:00 - 1:00 for a freewill donation.
If you are in a position to help, PRIDE members will be meeting at Doniphan West on Wednesday June 29th at 9 a.m. for the six-hour-long process of making the ice cream from scratch. We believe we have the kitchen work covered, but are still in need of volunteers who can lift more than 50 pounds to help move and load the heavy mixing containers. If you are unable to assist on that day, please consider making a batch of the custard used as a base. We need a total of 30 batches of custard to make enough ice cream for this event. You can find the recipe below. If you are free to help on Saturday July 2nd, consider assisting us with setup, serving, or cleanup. Even if you aren't free to help, we hope you will stop by and enjoy a bowl (or two) of homemade ice cream to help celebrate Independence Day. To volunteer, please click on any of the above links (red text) and complete the automated email form. OR reach out to us on Facebook or Instagram. These donations allow us to continue offering events, programs, and projects that benefit the Highland community. For some examples of these, please visit the "About" page of our website.
Highland PRIDE is sponsoring a community-wide event on June 18, 2022.

Contact Hannah Davis at [email protected] We are nearing the final stages of the YCP Program for 2022. The Juniors from Doniphan West have been helpful in launching Highland PRIDE's first YCP program. After our initial presentation and lesson, the students split into small groups and traveled throughout Highland to conduct a community evaluation based on the Community Capitals Framework. After a full-class discussion on the evaluation process and outcomes, a small group of students formed to create a presentation. These students are working hard to put together both a visual and a written summary to present to the community. The date of that presentation remains to be announced, but is expected to take place one evening in the week of May 16 - 20th. We hope you will be able to join us to learn more about what the youth of Highland see as the strengths and needs of this community.
___________ Initial Presentation
I hope you all enjoy the functionality of our new website. Please provide feedback as you find errors, broken links, or if you have suggestions for content or layout. There are some limitations to the platform we are using, so not every suggestion may be implemented. I will do my best to ensure that the site is as visually appealing and accurate as possible. I am also aware that there are no pictures from our activities. I do not currently have any digital images that are of high enough pixel quality to use. If you have pictures you are willing to share, please let me know and we can set up a folder for sharing them. I will be happy to redesign the site once we have enough community specific photographs to use. I'm still in the creation phase - I'm writing this blog post as quick practice and to check the alignment on this particular page. For that reason, I cannot be certain what else this website will include by the time it is launched. I anticipate using the following sections:
There will not be a secure members site or ability to have a direct chat. Those features require a greater time and financial investment. They are a possibility down the road if members are interested. In the meantime, I will post on different topics and you may all interact with one another in the comments. If there is a topic you would like posted to begin a conversation, please let me know and I will be happy to put one up. So...go explore and see what you think. My hope is that this website will provide a quick and easy way to communicate information to every member of our group - and to the community - as we move forward. |
